Q. What is a Shurah?
A. Shurah is an Arabic word often translated as “mutual consultation” and refers to the manner in which the governing council makes its decisions. The idea is that all members are equal and have an equal say in the organisation, so that all decisions made by the Amir (President) reflect the best possible choice made in any circumstances.

Q. Is this a religious charity?
A. ODP is a charity that chooses its projects to benefit all people who need help. We are not partial to helping any group of people. Our values are based on religious beliefs of good works to our fellow human in need and giving charity. We do not preach, propagate religion or send Missions. We help communities in poverty.

Q. Can I claim my donations on my tax return?
A. We are in the process of applying to become a registered tax deductible charity with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). Such processes take time, as stringent rules are required that necessitate our charity can prove that it performs its functions correctly, succeeds in its aims and satisfies the ATO that it is doing it right. At the moment you cannot claim your donations on your tax return, but watch this space!

Q. Does any individual receive money from donations?
A. No. It is illegal for us to do so, and it is against our constitution. In fact, even those communities we are helping will not receive funds, but a self-sustaining solution to serve their needs collectively.

Q. How can I contribute towards the greater good of society?
A. You can inform your friends and family about ODP and become a member yourself.

Q. How can I become a member?
A. You can become a member by clicking the donate/join tab at the top of the page.

Q. What is required of me to be a member?
A. The only requirement is that you donate a minimum of one Australian Dollar (i.e. AUD$1) per week (or equivalent).

Q. What happens if my personal details change?
A. Email ODP with your updated details and we will update our records. You will keep your existing membership ID.

Q. What security is in place to ensure my details do not go public?
A. All details sent to ODP will be kept only by the Secretary, and will only be accessible to the Amir, Deputy Amir and Treasurer. No details will be given to anyone outside ODP.
